I have a question about billing -- as our precautions ramp up, our quality of care increases, and our "face-to-face" time increase; are we able to increase our level on our E&M due to the Covid-19 state of emergency screenings we have enacted, its educational components, and POC that have been implemented? New Dx Code: COVID screening ICD-10 Z11.59
These health & safety benefits cost my team approximately 10 mins extra on every wound care patient and are a "New" dx code. Thank you for your help.

Hi Dr. Jenneffer,
I sought out the expertise of another surgeon/friend in response to your concerns. He mentioned the need for clear documentation of the extra precautions, the complexities of the patient, and the increase in time to be included in your dictation for application to the new ICD code. An extra 10 minutes sounds like a marked increase of time per patient!

It would be interesting to hear from other providers in response to this question. Thanks for posing such a thought provoking question!
