About the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care
Founded in 1995, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) is the largest nonprofit, interdisciplinary wound care organization in the United States — and one of the most respected in the world. Our mission is straightforward: to advance the care of people with and at risk for wounds. How we pursue that mission is what sets us apart.
At the heart of everything we do is a genuine commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration. Wound care is not a single-specialty discipline. Effective prevention and treatment requires physicians, nurses, physical therapists, podiatrists, pharmacists, nutritionists, researchers, educators, and industry partners working together — and the AAWC is the community where that collaboration happens. We are the only wound care organization in the United States built from the ground up to welcome and equally represent every discipline at the table.
That philosophy extends to our educational programming, public policy initiatives, research priorities, and clinical resources — all of which are developed with the full spectrum of wound care professionals in mind. Whether you are at the bedside, in the lab, in the classroom, or in the boardroom, the AAWC exists to support your work and amplify your voice.
Beyond our membership community, the AAWC is an active force in shaping the future of wound care at the highest levels. We hold a seat on the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) Council, maintain a formal affiliation with Wounds Australia, and serve as an active member of the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders — a national coalition dedicated to advocating for evidence-based care, appropriate reimbursement, and policies that protect patient access. These partnerships reflect our belief that better outcomes for wound care patients require collaboration not just within disciplines, but across borders and organizations.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion — recognizing that disparities in wound care are real, measurable, and addressable, and that closing those gaps is inseparable from our mission. Every initiative we undertake, every partnership we build, and every member we welcome is part of our commitment to a wound care community that is as broad, inclusive, and effective as the patients we serve deserve.
The AAWC. Every discipline. Every patient. Advancing wound care together.
